And here's a nice bonus: after helping your own child or students, you can earn $20 to $30 per hour tutoring in your spare time! After 25 years of tutoring, Superphonics knows how to get the students - and you will too.

Here's a  6-year-old that wasn't getting the concept...

Dear Superphonics,
My grandson is a bright child who was expelled from two preschools because he was too hyperactive and aggressive to suit the teachers.  He was one of his teacher's most challenging students to keep focused.

By the teacher conference the week before Thanksgiving, we were told that although he loved numbers, he had known only 26 of the 56 upper and lowercased letters of the alphabet at the beginning of the school year, whereas, he only knew 32 letter variations two-and-a-half months into his first year – a growth of only 6 letter variations. Reading didn't interest him. Neither did letter recognition, and although he liked hearing stories, when he was assigned pre-reading tasks, he strayed from his work, frequently leaving it undone at the end of the project time.

Over the Thanksgiving weekend, we acquired your Superphonics Part-One Video Series. Interested in encouraging learning without putting too much pressure on him, we did not require him to spend a set time watching them. We put them on occasionally. By Christmas vacation, the light bulb had clicked on  As is typical of the holiday season, we had been too busy to put much time into tutoring him ourselves and limited our activity with him to making word blending sounds per your video #1 while we were driving.

During Christmas vacation, our experience with your training took an unexpected course. He started sounding out the spelling of words. It became our holiday game to think of words that were spelled phonetically and let him puzzle them out. He rarely missed.  He was intrigued with it and said he wanted to learn how to spell everything. Happy to oblige, we provided more words within his level. It soon got to where he was trying more oddly structured words that we knew he wasn’t ready for. However, we did realize that he was reading-ready.

The first night back to school after Christmas, my grandson asked me to read him a bedtime story. I calmly informed my grandson that he was going to read me a book. His response? That he didn’t know how to read, of course. I told him that I thought that since he could spell, he might just know how to read some words and just not know it. We settled back with the book.

In twenty minutes, my kindergarten grandson read the entire “Bears on Wheels” book to me, sounding out each word as he went. The words: 'one, two, wheels, and again' were difficult for him at first. (We hadn't done your video #5 Sight Words yet). As the few sight words were repeated, they became less troublesome.

I fully believe that your tapes have prevented a hyperactive intelligent 5-year-old from developing reading blocks that could have damaged both his reading ability and his self-esteem for the rest of his life. I want to thank you for your tapes, your system, and your attention to the commonly missed, small details of reading basics. We are thrilled.
Sincerely,
Terry McGuire 805-834-3613 Bakersfield, California USA

I would be happy to be a verifiable reference.

UPDATE: 13 days after this was written, Terry reporst that Anthony is not only the only reader in his class (he was the lowest), but he no longer shows ADHD symptoms in learning.

Do you and your child become frustrated when:
Learning the Sounds or the difference between 'letters' & 'sounds'... Sounding-out words? that is... Blending the Sounds to Read the Words?

Gets to the end and forgets the beginning?

Can't tune-in to the sounds to spell beginning words?
Memorizes words and mysteriously forgets them the next time around?

Taking forever to learn the long list of Site-Words? ...and yet your child is trying to learn the PHONICS RULES?... Oops.
It will likely get tougher unless you give your child the concept very soon.

Our PHONICS CAMP Video Series was designed just for your child - to learn the concept.

LEAP (Literacy Program) in Memphis Tennessee tries Superphonics with children and adults.  What were the results? Read the interview below.

What is the Literacy, Education and Abilities program?
A literacy program that delivers study skills utilizing the Study Technology developed by American author and educator, L. Ron Hubbard. Children are too often expected to learn and study but are not taught how to study. This is where they learn 'how to learn' and come to master the dictionary and grammar. ' LEAP is a free public service for the City of Memphis. Local teachers have been referring students to me regularly for the last two years. One particular school in disarray, speaks very highly of our program and students are referred by the Guidance Counselor.

What is the most common barrier in delivering study skills to your students?
The lack of ability to read. A lot of the schools don't use phonics and if they do, many of the teachers don't know how to teach it.

What difficulties have you run into trying to teach students to read?
We had a phonics program complete with sounds and rules that was ok, but it still took a long time to get students through it because it was teaching the sounds and rules of phonics without learning how to use the sounds. They weren't able to apply phonics rules because they didn't have the basic concept of application behind reading in the first place. Sounds and rules don't teach the concept and what to do. I hadn't realized this before. One of my students had gone through the phonics program but was still having a hard time. After studying the Superphonics Tutors Course I found out why.  I put her on Superphonics about a week and half ago and she's doing much better and is able to see what she was missing and knows she is working with concept application instead of simply memorizing sounds and phonics rules.

Traditional phonics is too high of a level for anyone who hasn't grasped the concept and application learned in these practice drills. After Superphonics, the phonics rules really flow. Traditional phonics should not be the beginning.

In reference to your success story,  how do the students on the Study Course know about the success your Superphonics students are getting?
I have two separate rooms and the study course students hear the Superphonics students in the other room laughing and doing the drills. So, on breaks the kids come out and talk about it. The Study Course students ask :What are you doing in there?  After they tell them, the Study Course students say "I want to do Superphonics!"

Would you recommend Superphonics to other literacy teachers and groups in the community?
Oh, most definitely; I would insist on it. It's a lot easier to teach than the traditional programs and will make the traditional methods a lot easier after Superphonics..

How can you teach a group of kids phonics with Superphonics?
Before Superphonics it took about a couple months to learn the basic sounds.  Now I just teach two kids and then have them play with each other a bit and they in turn play with  news students. These kids are now playing the Superphonics Game with the three new students who get excited because they know they'll be teaching other students once they know the sounds.

What have you personally gained from your Superphonics Tutors Course so far?
Basically, I've relearned phonics all over again.  Quickly too. There's things about phonics I've learned that I didn't realize before.  It also made me better understand how important it is to have the concept of reading before learning traditional phonics. If concept of application is missed, it becomes a barrier to learning.  This is because I've been using the traditional phonics so long and noticed all the troubles I've had getting through that and now seeing what it's like putting these missing concepts and practice in place.  Things just run a lot smoother and it's made me realize more - the capabilities of a child or someone whose wanting to learn how to read. Having these missing phonics steps, I can now much more easily take on younger students.

Can you see more room for LEAP expansion by using Superphonics?
Yes. Very much so.  It will help my program a lot. Memphis has a big problem here; about thirty percent suffer illiteracy here because even teachers don't know phonics. Having a real quick method for teaching phonics will make it much easier to take on more students and frees up my time by having the students effectively drill each other.

The program has really made my job a lot easier because when you're trying to teach a student a subject who doesn't know phonics you end up tutoring a lot of hours. You spend so much more time in one-to-one sessions.  Superphonics will be a much faster route onto the Study Courses because I don't have to spend as much time teaching the phonics.

It took me almost a year to get a woman through her phonics program in the previous course but she was still having a hard time reading. She's been going through the Superphonics games and exercises for about two weeks and has made more progress from Superphonics in two weeks than a whole year on the other program. She just told me that she's understainding this program. I think it will only take her a couple months to get her through Superphonics. She's still a little slower than the kids but moving much, much better than on the other program.

What made you decide to try the Phonics Course for parents and eductors?
It was sent to LEAD as a test pilot and gift. Once I read through the Superphonics Tutors Course and saw the video trailer, I decided I wanted it. And it was everything the trailer said it would be.

Okay! I want it!

Even adults lacking 'the concept', find THE PHONICS CAMP series the most effective remedy for sight reading limitations and spelling breakthroughs!

"Superphonics is a wonderful program for children with ADD or ADHD.  How can these symptoms suddenly be so reduced?"

                                        Terry McGuire, Bakersfield CA

The Phonics Camp Vidio Series - Written, Produced and main videography by
Superphonics Founder and Master Tutor, Tracy Sherwood

This Video Program is broken down into the very simplest steps possible and designed for fast, almost effortless breakthroughs. Upon first examination, one often wonders how this first video tape helps in learning to read. It's demonstrating the most basic concepts of reading that have been completely missed in traditional and commercial phonics programs and methods.

If a child is missing these simple steps, he is either a site reader or will have difficulty with phonics. Just let the tape play. For most children having extreme difficulty in getting the concept of reading, this is where the first and most vital light bulb comes on.

In tape two, we learn the sounds of the ABCs and play the simplest game possible to learn them quickly. There is no faster way to learn the ABCs or their sounds than by playing this simple game. No difficult game or phonics rules to learn. Any child who can play any other simple game will catch on quickly. This technique, developed by Tracy Sherwood, has been the foundation for hundreds of commercial programs sweeping the nation. It all started with one article published on the internet in 1996 'Phonics, the Right Way and the Wrong Way" by Tracy Sherwood.

In tape three, we put the first two tape basics together and begin to spell beginning level words.  This is where you can expect another bright light to come on.  Tapes 4, 5 and 6, take the student up to sounding out and spelling more difficult phonetically based words plus a large number of sight-words. As in the success story above, the child often knows how to read before ever trying it after practicing only the first three videos.

Effort? Not much needed. Focus? Not a lot. It's designed for children with short or zig-zagging attention spans. We don't force, we just put a tape in and walk away. (Not recommended for children who don't care for horses).  But if your child likes to watch other kids play games and learn by simple means, you may find him joining in and slapping the TV Screen to beat the kids on the video. And then your child can pull out the Superphonics Slap Cards for that level and play the simple game showed on TV.

We do mean simple. It doesn't come simpler in any other program.  Don't let the simplicity fool you. That's what most struggling children have been needing... pure simplicity with fast results for more struggling children. Simpler, while far more effective than the leading phonics programs... guaranteed. Designed for that needed conceptual breakthrough.  For bright pre-readers, children with missed basics, and ADD or ADHD labeled children.

Much Love,
Superphonics Founder

PHONICS CAMP Video Series:  What's in it?
Well, it all begins with a 6-video story about a young illiterate girl who takes her tears to her secret hideaway and falls asleep and dreams. She dreams she is taken to the PHONICS CAMP where she watches kids practicing with kids as they learn the sounds and how to blend them to read and hear them to spell.  Her love for horses make this a magical paradise. Boys love the crazy puppets "Dude & Dude". Anyway, when she awakens, guess what?... Not telling. You have to find out in the PHONICS CAMP video series.

You also can order our  two training videos for teachers, tutors and parents. The first  video shows a beginning reader getting personally tutored by the Superphonics Founder. There is no better phonics tutor in this country! Tracy Sherwood receives an average of $100 per hour for her exclusive sessions and now you can sit in on her breakthrough magic free when you order the PHONICS CAMP series.

Our other training video is of our founder teaching the correct way to learn the sounds. Teachers and tutors  are saying things like, "That's right! That sound is pronounced differently than I've been teaching all these years. No wonder kids have a hard time putting the sounds together to read. The sounds just don't blend smoothly the way I've been teaching them!"  The 2-video training set is only $49.95

A FEW STATISTICS
Before SimplePhonics was developed, learning phonics was far more lengthy and for children who just couldn't retain the sounds or had trouble blending them to sound out words phonetically, it took someone with an awful lot of time, patience and know-how to break through the barriers. They were tough barriers to get through for these children who were often labeled as having ADD or ADHD. So many of these children are bright learners that missed a few basics or for whom the light bulb just did not turn on. We found the reason for the darkness for many of these children.

In 1982, after Tracy Sherwood had been tutoring phonics for 12 years, and, after discovering that the most difficult part of learning to read was simply in hearing and blending the sounds to read and spell simple phonetic words, she had to come up with a way to make it simple for those to whom it presented the greatest challenge.

In 1983, she had found the solution and began making the breakthroughs that previously took months for the struggling phonics student, in only a few hours, and sometimes, a few minutes.  Her next challenge was to get her newly developed techniques in a format that could be taught on video cassette without going over the child's head and without need for outside help.  This program was so successful that parents reported that watching or just listening to the video only once or twice was all that was needed and progress was smooth from there on. Some children take longer, that's why she made them so enjoyable.

But Tracy wanted to be able to teach children the sounds of the alphabet as well as how to blend them, and then how to spell beginning reader words by sound. Superphonics Level-One was her solution. the most remarkable thing about this new video program is that many kids labeled as having  ADD or ADHD suddenly get the concept and the symptoms are gone. The naturally high energy is channeled with understanding and confidence soars.  It's the niche designed to hold the interest of your child (especially horse lovers) no matter what your child has been through in the frustrating process of trying to retain the sounds, blending them to read words, or to spell by sound.
